Apply for product authorisation by the deadlines to keep products on the NI market

Following evaluation under the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (EU BPR), a decision has been taken to approve the following active substance/product type combination:

  • thermally treated garlic juice (CAS n/a EC n/a) in product type 19 – 1 July 2025

Action for biocidal product suppliers

If you supply biocidal products containing this active substance in the relevant product type, you must apply for EU BPR product authorisation by 1 July 2025 to keep them on the NI market. New products must not be supplied in NI until product authorisation is granted.

If you supply this active substance for use in biocidal products of the relevant product type, you may need to apply for technical equivalence.   • Alkyl (C12-16) dimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride (ADBAC/BKC (C12-16)) (CAS 68424-85-1 EC 270-325-2) in product type 1 – 1 July 2024
  • Ozone generated from oxygen (CAS 10028-15-6 EC n/a) in product types 2, 4, 5, and 11 – 1 July 2024
  • Sulfur dioxide generated from sulfur by combustion (CAS n/a EC n/a) in product type 4 – 1 October 2024

If you supply biocidal products containing these active substances in the relevant product types, don’t forget to apply for EU BPR product authorisation by the dates above to keep them on the Northern Ireland market.

  • Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, extract from open and mature flowers of Tanacetum cinerariifolium obtained with hydrocarbon solvents  (CAS 89997-63-7 EC 289-699-3 ) in product type 18 – 1 February 2025
  • Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, extract from open and mature flowers of Tanacetum cinerariifolium obtained with supercritical CO2  (CAS 89997-63-7 EC 289-699-3 ) in product type 18 – 1 February 2025
  • Reaction mass of N,N-didecyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N-methylammonium propionate and N,N-didecyl-N-(2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl)-N-methylammonium propionate and N,N-didecyl-N-(2-(2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy)ethyl)-N-methylammonium propionate (CAS n/a EC n/a) in product types 2 and 4 – 1 February 2025

Following evaluation under the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (EU BPR), a decision has been taken to approve the following active substance/product type combinations. This will affect Northern Ireland (NI):

  • Sulfur dioxide generated from sulfur by combustion (CAS n/a EC n/a) in product type 04
  • Formic acid (CAS 64-18-6 EC 200-579-1) in product types 02, 03, 04 and 05

Action for biocidal product suppliers

If you supply biocidal products containing sulfur dioxide generated from sulfur by combustion in product type 04, you must apply for EU BPR product authorisation by 1 October 2024 to keep them on the NI market.

If you supply biocidal products containing formic acid in product types 02, 03, 04, and/or 05, you must apply for EU BPR product authorisation by 1 November 2024 to keep them on the NI market.

New products must not be supplied in NI until product authorisation is granted.

Following evaluation under the EU BPR, a decision has been taken to approve the following active substance/product type combinations. This will affect NI:

  • (13Z)-Hexadec-13-en-11-yn-1-yl acetate (CAS 78617-58-0 EC n/a) in product type 19
  • Ozone generated from oxygen (CAS 10028-15-6 EC n/a) in product types 02, 04, 05 and 11

If you want to supply biocidal products containing these active substances in the relevant product types, you can now apply for EU BPR product authorisation. Products must not be supplied in NI until product authorisation is granted.
